Bobbie Schmitt Engel & Volkers

Experience: 47 years Specializations: Residential Real Estate Areas Served: All of Metro Atlanta and surrounding cities. Q: What made you become interested in real estate? A: My father retired from the Marine Corp in 1968 and got his real estate license. We lived in Orlando, Walt Disney World opened in 1971, I graduated high school in 1972 and got my real estate license. I never looked back! Q: What is the most interesting thing that happened during an open house you hosted? A:  On a very raining day with monsoon kind of blowing rain, I had 16 groups of people visit the Open House! Q: What was your favorite moment in your career so far? A: Anytime I receive accolades from a client is a favorite moment.  Being voted by my peers, twice, to be Realtor of the Year was an incredible honor.  Several of the agents that worked for and with me in the past still attribute my guidance and help to their success.  I've got many proud moments since my career has been so long! Q: What do you wish you had known when you first got your real estate license? A: I wish I had purchased a home every year and retained them for investment! Q: In what ways have you seen the real estate industry change since you started? A: So many of the details of a real estate transaction have been simplified by technology.  We used to go to the courthouse or use micro fish to locate properties and doing a market analysis was extensive and time consuming. Accessing a house to show meant you went to the various offices and picked up a key. Listings were in  a loose leaf notebook and updated weekly. Purchase agreements were hand-written or typed and presentation, signatures and acceptance were all handled in person.   Technology has certainly streamlined the tasks of the business - electronic lockbox, computerized MLS, DocUSign, emails for delivery. However, the business is a people business and that has not changed!  It's a business built on trust and relationships! Q: What’s the most challenging part of your job? A: Webinars - there are many opportunities to be a part of networks, advertising and marketing and not enough time to "learn" about all of the opportunities available. Q: If you could sum up being a real estate agent in five words or less, what would you say? A: Passion,  Perseverance, Education, Experience, and Expertise!
