Q: What made you become interested in real estate?
A: I got interested in Real Estate thanks to my parents. Both of my parents have a great eye for visualizing what’s possible as far as rehabbing goes but also as far as making a house a home. My parents have rehabbed homes for 15 years and my father recently became a fully licensed Realtor as well.
Q: What is the most interesting thing that happened during an open house you hosted?
A: Indianapolis is the biggest small town in the world and I have run into many friends of friends at open houses. I love finding crossover connections from my many social circles.
Q: What was your favorite moment in your career so far?
A: I had the wonderful opportunity to negotiate a pre-close possession for my clients relocating from Phoenix. I was able to meet them at the new home with housewarming gifts the moment they arrived. Meeting the whole family for the first time and seeing the excitement of their new life was truly a gift.
Q: What do you wish you had known when you first got your real estate license?
A: While there are many systems and models in place to easily succeed, there is no reason to not be yourself. I have found, time and again, that my clients just want to be treated as valued people and this is most easily done when I’m not trying to be someone I’m not.
Q: In what ways have you seen the real estate industry change since you started?
A: The amount of data available regarding home valuations and changing inventory levels is almost overwhelming at times and the data points available are ever increasing. I’m interested to see how Big Data can be properly utilized by proper filtering at the hands of Realtors who get it.
Q: What’s the most challenging part of your job?
A: The hardest part of my job is trying to be two places at once. Indianapolis is 330 sq miles and I’ve often had showings an hour apart. Due to inventory constraints (at least under $250K), I often need to see the house the first day it’s available and trying to accommodate all showing requests is a fun juggling act.
Q: If you could sum up being a real estate agent in five words or less, what would you say?
A: A Realtor is available, communicative, analytic, and caring.
