Cathy Colton

Cathy Colton eXp Realty

Experience: I have been buying and selling real estate for 15 years, since 2003. Specializations: Communication, first time home buyers, and sellers who are ready to begin the next chapter in their lives. Areas Served: The greater Sacramento area, as well as the Bay Area. Q: What made you become interested in real estate? A: I saw a lot of people renting, which ultimately hurt them by not building equity and stability in their own life. I decided I wanted to change this and educate people, and help them buy and sell real estate that ultimately helped them achieve their personal goals. Q: What is the most interesting thing that happened during an open house you hosted? A: I had someone walk into the open house, and try to steal drugs from the client’s medicine cabinet. Luckily it was locked, and when he was confronted about trying to open it, he left the open house. Q: What was your favorite moment in your career so far? A: I was chosen as the one agent in our office, which the broker was willing to pay to attend BOLD (Business Objective; a life by design) training, because my team leader saw something in me. Q: What do you wish you had known when you first got your real estate license? A: How much work it would take to develop a client portfolio. I would have started talking about real estate a lot sooner, had I known. Q: In what ways have you seen the real estate industry change since you started? A: It has become a lot more regulated, which for our clients can be painful, but it has helped to keep the industry's integrity. Q: What’s the most challenging part of your job? A: Keeping my clients’ expectations in check, so they understand the process, the time frames, and why the highest offer isn't always the best offer. Q: If you could sum up being a real estate agent in five words or less, what would you say? A: Hard work, clients before self.
